In problem-posing education the oppressor will not benefit anything because in this method of education as stated,"...people develop their power to perceive critically the way they exist in the world with which and in which they find themselves; they come to see the world not as a static reality, but as a reality in process, in transformation" (Freire, p.83). Therefore, (oppressed) humans are able to be conscious about their surroundings and develop a critical lens to view the world and grasp it. Therefore, problem-posing education will no benefit the oppressor simply because it is then that people begin to question "Why?". Once the oppressed are afforded with the problem-posing education no oppressive order could contain them from inquiry. Moreover, it its this type of education that people are able to gain their humanization, consciousness, and inquiry.
In a very condensed way, the purpose of asking "Why" is to gain control of our own knowledge, thinks more critical, and to be more conscious of our surroundings and what affects our world to come up with tangible solutions. If we take control of our own knowledge our oppressors ill have nothing to "teach" us and eventually the oppressed will rise up because of the knowledge afforded to them. Having the empowerment to be more critical of situations that are affecting us directly or indirectly can also be an opening or beginning to our own consciousness. This will eventually lead to our freedom because we will have the tools necessary to revolt, start a revolution but not become the oppressors. But in Freire's words, he states this, "A deepened consciousness of their situation leads people to apprehend that situation as a historical reality susceptible of transformation" (p.85). Therefore, once we have gained our consciousness of our own situation or reality using the theory of history because we will be referring to historical events of our people that have kept us oppressed and in this atrocious system to be able to transform it. Once it is formed there will be no going back because we have surpassed "Why Ask Why?" because it will lead us to change in the world. In conclusion, we need to ask "Why" to have a sense of responsibility of our own knowledge and power to transform the world by gaining knowledge, consciousness, and the tools necessary to be critical. That is why we must ask "Why".
